Trekking is one of the most popular adventure sport which is gaining its popularity in India. Adventure – seeking people from all walks of life love to be challenged by the extremities of this activity. Whether it’s a few hours trek or a few day’s expedition- the results of trekking ensures to provide enthralling experiences and teaches so many important life and survival lessons which cannot be learned otherwise. However, it is important to realize that all the treks requires the appropriate physical fitness. You should have the high amount of energy and zeal to complete a particular trek depending on the level of difficulty of the same.

But, worry not! Here we are helping you avoid bombarding ‘google baba’ with all your queries with a one-stop-solution. This guide is the perfect amalgamation of first hand experiences as well as the necessary factors to keep in mind before you embark upon a new expedition.

* Trekking Levels: There are three basic trek levels – the beginners’ treks, the moderate treks and the difficult treks. The basic beginners level includes simply walking on a plain terrain. However, do keep in mind that it will be much more different from walking in parks. It can include simple walking for a few hours with more or less plain terrain. However, the difficult treks includes trekking for various days, in harsh climate and also in very rugged terrain. It can be walking in the snow packed area or frozen water bodies, harsh weather conditions,  etc.

* Being physically fit: Before planning your journey, one must ensure that s/he is physically fit for the upcoming hurdles. You must be completely honest with yourself. Please don’t make any rash decisions just because of your peer pressure but you must be confident that you can do this all by yourself. However in case you have had any past injuries, make sure you keep that in mind. Even if you are fully recovered, the past injuries can bring back the pain. So, make sure that you pack all the medicines, crepe bandages, etc. just in case of any emergency.
Also, remember that trekking is a very tedious process, so the mental strength is equally important. It is because of your mental fitness that you will be able to motivate and push yourself to keep moving ahead.

* Train yourself: Adding on to the previous point, before the trek, train yourself to build the stamina. Make sure that you are completely fit for the job, only then proceed further on the plan. Even if you are on medics, make sure that you inform your guide about it and take it along yourself.

* Valid bookings: Make sure that you have a hired a certified and professional guide before going on a trek. However, if you want to plan everything yourself, then be 100% sure that you have done complete research about the place, the dangers to be prevented and all the other requisite things like food, terrain, temperature, accommodation, climatic conditions, etc.

* Smart packing: Do not pack too many clothes which will make your luggage heavy. Remember that you will have to carry it all throughout the way. Pack very smartly. Various articles and videos on smart packing with saving space is available on the internet – make sure you watch and implement it. Make a list of the required necessities and stick to it.
Also, make sure that you definitely pack the vital products. Like it is really important to carry a stick for your journey. Also, you must wear good hiking shoes. In case you have

bought new ones, then make sure to wear them once or twice before the trek in order to wear them out a little. (explained in next point)

* Wear comfortable and well – broken pair of trekking shoes: Make sure that you

take the appropriate shoes according to the terrain and climatic conditions. The shoes should be waterproof, high – ankled and to avoid the shoe-bite, make sure that you break the shoes as much as possible before your trip.

* Stay hydrated: Keep yourself hydrated by drinking water in small quantities at regular intervals. Just remember to wet your lips. Also, in case you feel a little hungry, then instead of snacking on bags of packaged chips, you can keep some energy bars and dry fruits. These food items will not only resolve your hunger pangs, but also give you energy to keep yourself going.

* Be confident: If you are traveling in a group, you need not compete with others. You need to understand that it is not a race and you should keep walking on the pace you are comfortable with. Remember that each individual’s metabolism and stamina is different. So do not compete and instead keep walking on a slow but steady pace. You will also get to enjoy the views.

* The most important and unsaid rule of trekking is to respect the nature. You mustn’t litter anywhere. The environment’s cleanliness is our responsibility. We must understand that the ecosystem is very fragile and should leave it as natural as possible. One must respect the creation of the mother Earth, be thankful for the beauty it has bestowed upon us.

Not just the destination, but the entire journey is worth it! (Pixabay)
